Author: Chih-Sheng Chang and Jeih-Jang Liou Keyword: Elderly population, Falling, Operation pattern, Berg balance scale, Grey relational analysis, Weighting
Summary: With social progress, economic development andthe enhancement of life quality and medical technology, the average life expectancy of human beings in recentyears hit a record high frequently. Therefore, in the 40’sof the 21st century, the global population is estimated toreach 9.3 billion, where the elderly populationaccounted for 14%. The ratio of the elderly in Taiwan isestimated to reach 30.3%, which is about 2 times thanglobal ratio of the elderly population. Comparing withthe countries worldwide, Taiwan is going to face animpact of an aging population and related derivatives. For the issue of an aging society in the prevention ofinjury topics, falling is regarded to be one of theaccidents occurs most often. Hence, the paper startsfrom preventative perspective, uses operation pattern asclassification concepts, and applies the Berg Balancescale Scores (BBS) as the basis. Through the 12 basisand Center of Pressure (COP) track factors on standingaction established by BBS, BMI and positive stressmeasurement system, we can use the grey relationalanalysis method to analyze the three groups of youngpattern typical-modal (YPT), elderly pattern typical-modal (EPT) and elderly pattern multi-modal (EPM).Then we can understand that there is the sameoperation mode or fixed differences between the samemode of the different age and physical fitnesspopulations. By understanding the weighting of theimpact factors, we can reduce the chance of fallingoccurred. The results show that the standingperformance of YPT is indeed better than EPT, and thestanding performance of EPT is better than EPM. Sothe results can be the reference of elderly postureconversion action research.
